I was forced out of my house due to a covered insurance claim. The Insurance Company is paying my hotel bill and meals at restaurants above my customary 2 restaurant visits per week.
do I have to pay income taxes on my extra expense income?

I am waiting for the adjuster’s report on our damages after hurricane Ike in Texas. As the estimates for interior sheetrock, flooring and painting repairs and roof damages come in I hear different reports from other people as far as what the insurance companies allow for all the different items – such as: $30.00 per foot of fence replacement, $1.20 per sq.ft. for sheetrock etc. Does anyone have more figures that they know about?

I am trying to sell my home in Florida and have interested buyers, but the cost of the insurance is probably going to make the deal fall through. I’m just curious if I am the only one, or is anyone else running into these problems.

I’m interested in renting out my condo during the Democratic National Convention (I live in Denver). However, my condo insurance does not cover damages caused by renter. If I were to upgrade my policy, how long would I have to commit? Could I just get a renters policy for a month? Or do I need to make a year commitment?
I would only be renting it for 5 days to a week.
