Question posed by David: If a person shattered my back window, then how much would my house insurance rate go up?
A person threw rock at my back window and it’s roughly 6 foot by 3 foot. The rock shattered my entire window. The insurance will cover it, but how much will the rates go up?

Best answer:

Answer by car253
Depends on your state and which company you are with. You will lose a claims free discount for a certain amount of years. And, you have a deductible. Unless it costs a Lot of money to replace the window you better fix it yourself and sue the person in small claims court to get your money back.

Any claim should be a big one and one worth reporting.

Question posed by 00mar7: What study book for property and casualty INSURANCE?
im trying to study for texas state insurance licensing in property and casualty.. is there one that you recommand or that could probably help me..to learn the basics of insurance so i can take my test?

Chosen answer:

Answer by linze2go
Find a school in your area, see if they have a test manual you could buy or borrow, they also may have online tests you can pay do do. The test and regulations are different in each State.

You could contact your State Insurance Auditor and ask if they have a booklet, they did for my State.

Best of luck, it’s a nasty test!

A question asked by char s: It started to rain while replacing our roof and now there is water damage in our house will insurance cover it?
We got the house sheeted and then tarped before it started to rain. BUT now it wont stop raining and we have had 2 ceilings fall down and numerous leaks. Do we have a chance at turning this in to our insurance company?

Most comprehensive answer:

Answer by woodtick314
You can talk to them. Since the damage was indirectly of your doing, they may not. Give your agent a call, since he/she would be much more familiar with your policy than anyone here would be. Good luck.

Question by cherry: I recently had burglary at my home. How to get the maximum out of insurance?
Have AAA home insurance . National vendors are coming up with the replacements for all the items. Have lost almost all that i had in my home but the insurance plan says either a replacement of the item or the depreciated price. What should i take ? Please share your experiences.

Chosen answer:

Answer by KMcG
Take the replacement item, it will be more than the depreciated value. Next time you renew your home owners ask about full replacement cost. Changing your coverage to that will cost maybe $ 50 more a year, but you won’t have to deal with any of that depreciated value.

Question posed by Steve D: What are the differences between specific and comprehensive property insurance policies?

Chosen answer:

Answer by mbrcatz
There’s no absolute answer – because those are not proper insurance terms to describe coverage.

So, specific means “just those things”. Comprehensive means, “a whole bunch of things”. It does NOT mean “everything”.

A question asked by bruce_eel: Does making a claim on your house insurance make your premium go up even if they don’t pay?
I have a 1000 dollar deductible and I made a claim to my insurance bc a snowstorm damaged my gutter. I realize repairing the gutter on its own will be significantly less than 1000 but I made the claim because I do not know if there is any other damage. If the adjuster comes out, makes an estimate, and the insurance company does not pay anything because the estimate is less than my deductible, will the premium still go up?

The best answer:

Answer by Jeanbug
I actually just went through this 2 weeks ago, when a tree fell down on my property and incurred about $ 1000 worth of damage, which happens to be my deductible. According to my agent, even though the insurance wouldn’t pay out, the premium would still go up because a claim was started!

To avoid this, you have to call your agent and the adjuster and “formerly withdraw the claim.” This pretty much annuls it and means that we all pretend it never happen. And, your rates state the same. This advice came from my insurance agent :)

I’m in Austin, and I use Amica. Top rated company with great prices, but they’re very selective about who they insure.

Here’s their website:

Good luck to you.
