A question asked by muslce: What insurance agency that will take up insurance on a mobile home?
I got a home from clayton homes that I had about ten years now . A they home insurance for a mobile home is riduclious and the insurance on my home go up every year and the name of their insurance ageny that they gave me was Home first agency inc. And their insurance is too high. Is their any other insurance company that will take insurance on a mobile home.

Call Geico and Progressive.
Don’t do this online – pick up the phone and call them.
Get a high deductible plan, and make sure you have those funds in a savings account

My son was spending the night at a friends house when a fire occurred and he suffers from 3rd degree burns possibly needing skin grafts. We cannot afford these costs and they have homeowners insurance.

The problem in such a situation is that you cannot “file a claim” with another party’s insurer. And you cannot sue the other party’s insurer.

Either your health insurance will cover costs and pursue recovery against the other party or you will have to sue the other party directly.

A question from leanna: Can anyone tell me, on average, what home insurance on a double-wide mobile home is in Indiana?
I live in Indiana, and am looking for cheap home insurance for a double-wide trailer. Does anybody know on average what insurance runs in Indiana?

How old is it? By the time these babies are 20 years old, they’ve depreciated to NO value.

If it’s less than 10 years old, it’s probably going to be around $ 400 a year. If it’s 10 – 20, probably closer to $ 600 a year. And over 20, you probably won’t find anyone willing to give you insurance on it at all – it’s not worth anything any more.

A question asked by dsjnix: Which is more likely to be covered by homeowners insurance?
Is homeowners insurance more likely to cover damages to a subfloor caused by an invisible long term leak from plubming in the wall or by damages caused by a shorter term leak from a dishwasher? Or would they typically cover neither? And why will they not pay for our dinners out when we have no use of our kitchen for several weeks?

Well, seepage that occurs over time isn’t going to be covered, no matter where it’s from. Sudden accidental damage, like a burst pipe in the wall, or a rupture in the hose in the dishwasher, will both be covered.

Many policies have an exclusion for any water damage, where the water has leaked out for more than 30 days.

As to why they won’t pay for dinners out – because they only pay for INCREASED living expenses. If you normally ate out 5 days a week, there’s no INCREASE. If you didn’t, you can do quite well, with microwaving and toaster oven, just about anything. And it doesn’t have to be in the kitchen!!

When they DO give you additional living expenses, the food allowance is VERY small, like $ 5 per meal per person. You can’t hit Ruth Chris on the insurance company’s dollar, it’s more like McDonalds.

my husbands one and only mistake, cost him 6 months in prison 6years ago. House insurers still wont touch us when we tell them, do we have to tell?He is 55 years old!

It depends on what he went to jail for. If your husband went to jail for insurance fraud then you must tell the insurance company.

Anything else, they probly do not have to know. So, it depends. You would have to say if it was for insurance fraud or not.

Call your Department of Insurance in your state for help.

A question from Bob 438: Can you get homeowners insurance on a home that is not occupied & will be for sale in the next few months?
Mother-in-law just died. Her estate is a mess. She let her homeowners insurance expire (didn’t renew her policy) in 2004. The broker that previously insured the home is having trouble getting an insurance company to pick up the home because it will not be occupied by anyone and will be on the market in a few weeks. I am concerned that something might happen to the home between now and the closing date (which may be months away). Anyone know an outfit that will insure this home?

Depending on the company, yes. But most companies who will accept that sort of risk will exclude vandalism damage or window breakage if the home is vacant for more than 30 days unless you pay an extra premium for that coverage.

It may also depend upon state regulations in your state. Try State Farm. I know that they will accept that sort of risk if they rest of the underwriting guidelines are met…in my state anyway.

Ok I want to get my insurance license in property and casualty but i don’t know where to get it. I have seen a lot of websites that offer it for online and the online exam. I would appreciate it if someone would tell me what would be the best website to use or is there somewhere i can go personally? I would prefer online. THank you.

The best website, is YOUR state insurance department website. That will have the OFFICIAL links of where to go and buy your study materials, and exactly what’s required in your state.

Once you do that, if you WANT a class, the best place to go is your state independent insurance association – www.iiaa.org

I don’t know of ANY states that allow you to take the actual test online FROM YOUR HOME. You have to go to an official testing center, with government issued photo id, and take the test (online) PROCTORED.

Question posed by Laraa: Will homeowners insurance cover a laptop damaged by power outage?
We had a bad storm about 2 weeks ago, i believe the power had to of when out at some point in the night because my alarm clock was reset. I bought a MacBook Pro for 1900, and it stays plugged in at night, when i woke up the next morning it would not power on. I took it to a repair shop and they said it would be over 2000 to repair. Can i claim this on my homeowners insurance? Also, The computers not even a month old and the warranty doesn’t cover this.

It all depends on what your homeowners policy states. Did you have it scheduled separately on your policy? If not, they prob won’t pay all of it. They are also going to tell you that you should always have a surge protector.

It is not deductible on your personal residence. If you had a rental property not used personally, you could deduct it on your Sch E. Or the business % of a qualified home office.
