Question by dood: I know your homeowners insurance is suppose to go up every year, but what is normal?
My homeowners insurance cost has gone up from $ 520 last year to $ 609 this year. Thats a 17% increase . Is that too much of an increase?
The best answer:
Answer by Galactose In most cases yes. An inflation gaurd will generally increase your Coverage A limit (dwelling) by about 6%. That does not mean your premium goes up by the same amount. What you probably have is either a change to your account ie an endorsment of sorts, a reavaluation, claims will effect you as well. If none of these are the case it could be a disappearing credit. By that I mean a new homebuyer credit that decreases over a few years. 10% your first year, 6% the second year and 3% your third. None after that. If this is a new policy that’s probably what’s happening to you.

A question asked by Lisa: How do I dispute a partial denial of a homeowners insurance claim?
There was a hail storm in our area and may (most) homes had roof damage, including mine. 95% of the homes in my subdivision have gotten new roofs from homeowners insurance claims. However, my adjuster said my roof was not damaged “enough” to warrant a new roof, only repair/patching to the back side of the roof. I have Allstate and so do several neighbors. Their claims were paid, in full, with now questions asked. The difference between my claim and theirs is the adjuster. They all had a different one than me. I have called and written the main office locally and the corporate office in Illinois, to no avail. They tell me my only recourse is to take them to court.
Best answer:
Answer by kirsten h unfortunatley they are probably right. the adjuster has the decision power…you can try calling the insurance commissioner in your area and file a complaint. if you cannot get them to replace the roof, be sure you have something in writing as to the damage, and repairs, so that if you have a leak in the future you can bring the same adjuster back out to re-evaluate it under the same claim so you do not have to file another one. keep the adjusters name, phone number and claim number with your records!
A question from tm: Would my car be covered under house insurance?
I am taking 3 months off, and going abroad. Could I cancel my car insurance, and put it in the garage? Would it be covered?
The No 1 answer:
Answer by Huntsman Quick note:
Doing this can hurt you. When you sign up for insurance again they will ask you if you currently have insurance. Not having current insurance is likely going to increase your rate. (for some reason it looks bad to insurance companies when you go for a time without insurance – ask anyone)
Better idea is to call your current car insurance company.
They may give you a price break

A question asked by : Advice on the CHEAPEST house insurance available in Ontario Canada?
I am a first time home buyer. The house insurance quotes I have got thus far are ridiculous. If anyone could recommend a good provider + the # I would really appreciate it. Has to be available to Canada Ont. thanks
Top answer:
Answer by Gambit The first place you should look is with the insurer who insures your vehicle. The second place is to contact a local insurance broker in your area and ask them for a quote. As I have no idea the details of the house you are buying the quotes you have received so far may or may not be typical of your situation. People buying home insurance for the first time would not be eligible for many discounts such as loyalty or claims free.
