Does the house insurance cover material things that are damaged?

Yes, it should. As far as I know, anything in the house that is damaged by the accident is covered. Just like if something gets stolen it’s covered. You should talk to your insurance company though.
Contents inurance would cover this.
Yes, homeowners frequently covers damage to contents, for named perils.
Water damage to contents from a burst pipe, usually isn’t one of them, but as you’ll be filing a claim anyway, include all the items damaged with your claim.
