Homeowners Insurance?

My daughter got a splinter in her foot from my fiance’s hardwood floors. I could not get the splinter out myself as it was about 2 inches long and about as thick as a toothpick (pretty thick as splinters go i think). Well, I ended up having to take her to the emergency room (we don’t have an urgent care anywhere nearby and this was a saturday). I just got the bill and it’s $500. my question is this: would my fiance’s homeowner’s insurance cover this? and if so, would it cause his homeowner’s premiums to be increased?

Its possible your fiance’s insurance would cover it under his medical coverage for others. You would need to check with his company to make sure before he files a claim. There is always a possibility that his rates could be affected because of it. He may be better off to just help you pay the $500 medical bill then to have a claim on his record.
Claiming it would probably end up increasing his premium the next year if they would cover it.
Also, he may have $500 deductible in which case it would increase his premium next year by filing a claim and probably wouldn’t pay you a cent.
more than likely he could claim this under his medical on his homeowners policy. this would NOT affect his premium. homeowners premiums don’t normally raise due to claims like an auto policy. if he has made claims in the past it could affect whether his company wants to keep the risk though. when you get into making 3 or more claims in under 2 years companies don’t like to keep the policy as it is considered high risk. if he hasn’t made any claims, it shouldn’t be a problem.
Are you and your daughter living there? Usually, they will not cover injuries to household members.
Does your daughter live with your fiance?
If so…no.
If not, then his medical payments policy would apply.
However, if his hardwood floors are such a danger, then his insurance company may reconsider the risk…..(also known as cancel him). A rate increase is also possible.
You are filing a claim saying that a minor child was injured because of a condition of his property. I expect it would affect his policy.

you can call the hospital and set up a payment plan with them. Usually they will do it interest free. I have been paying on a medical bill of mine that was 1000 at 50 a month interest free. As long as you send the checks every month, they don’t put it on your credit. But you have to speak to the billing department and set it up.
