You would file under your homeowner’s policy. I would bet that the deductible would be more than just going to buy a new laptop. I would check that out before filing a claim.
If it isn’t part of the car, it is covered by home insurance. However, if you have a $500 deductible, and have a claims-free discount, it is cheaper just to buy a new laptop unless it is a VERY EXPENSIVE laptop.
Don’t leave valuable, and very portable, items in the car for any passing thief to steal.
