Should these things be covered by home owners Insurance?
1.) Spoiled food from a party where everyone had to leave, but the power was out so the food went bad.
2.) clothes that have mold because the storm happened With a full load.
3.) item flew on car denting hood.
4.)shutter missing. It was somewhat faded, will they replace all of them or will I have 1 that is miss matched?
5.)Pool damage. Our water was perfectly clear for the party and within 1 hour, there was shilgles, leaves, grass, branches, and otehr junk. Will they cover a person to fix it?
The otehr damage, I’m sure will be covered, but I’m not sure about how the above will be handled. Any clue?
Thanks
The power was out 2.5 days and I put some food on Ice. As far as the pool as the pool I usually do clean it, but the vac only gets normal stuff, not heavy things. I can get in it, who knows what kind of bacteria is in there with it sitting with all that in there. It is going to cost me, to get it right again.

I don’t know about the food…that might just be a loss, but the clothing should be covered. They will replace the shutter, but you will probably have to paint them all so they match. I don’t know about your pool. The car is a questionable one, and will depend on your insurance coverages…some policies cover damage to vehicles there, others won’t. My renter’s insurance covers damage other people or animals do to my car while parked at home, but my neighbors doesn’t. Also, if your car insurance has comprehensive damage coverage, this would fall under that.
Car damage – no way. The others – file and see.
The clothing would be covered if the damage had been caused by the rain water, however, since you left it in the washer without power rather then hanging them up, it likely won’t.
The food will be a loss.
Car damage will be covered under the car’s comprehensive coverage, minus your deductible)
They’ll only replace the one shutter (minus your deductible). However, you can power wash the others to match, or over a couple of months, the new one will begin to have the same coloration.
If there is damage to the pumps and filtration, yes. They likely won’t cover paying a person to just clean it.
Your coverage depends upon your policy. Have you reviewed your policy for coverages? Was your claim denied? Some states require special policies for wind and for flood. The damage to your car would fall under your auto policy. Once again it depends on what coverages you had prior to this incident. Your insurance agent should assist you. Good Luck.
1) It depends on your policy wordings, and it may also depend on whether you took any steps to prevent this loss. Food doesn’t instantly go bad the moment the power goes out. If you took no steps to prevent the food from spoiling then an insurer is well within their rights to deny coverage on this ground.
2) Damage from mold is always excluded. Plus like in 1) if you took no steps to prevent (i.e. take clothes out of wash and hang to dry) this damage (mold growth takes time) then an insurer is well within their rights to deny the claim.
3) Is this damage to your car? Then it is excluded under your Homeowner’s policy. Is this someone else’s car (who doesn’t live in the household)? Did the item the flew into the car come from your house (i.e. piece of siding)? There may be coverage under the liability portion, however the car owner is going ot have to prove negligence on your part, and considering the storm blew the item onto the car it would be near impossible to prove negligence.
4) If only one shutter was damaged, then it’s the one shutter that gets repaired or replaced (insurer’s choice).
5) Unless the items actually damaged the pool itself I don’t see what you are claiming for. What financial loss have you suffered? Remove the items from the pool, drain the pool and refill. Isn’t this what you do the rest of the year? Do you file an insurance claim every time a leaf falls in the pool?
