Also...insurance is for large loss situations, like your house burned down, a car comes flying through into your living room. File a claim and your rates rise. Is it worth it? Additionally, what's your deductible? If the work is less than your deductible, or slightly over your deductible--I wouldn't file. Why put myself in a situation that would raise my rates???? It's NOT going to pay to upgrade (or modernize) vintage wiring. That's a maintenance issue. Did you already know that the room needs to be rewired ? The way insurance companies work ..... if there was damage to a room as a result of a short ..... if it was caused by faulty wiring they would probably pay to fix the room and its wiring. But there is a risk ... if there is no damage yet and the insurance company deems your wiring is unsafe. ..... they may drop your coverage until the house is rewired and inspected.
