One of my bathrooms is completely tile( floor & shower) noticed a hair line crack in shower. The next day it was larger. Husband went under the house and the flooring has rotted due to some kind of leak. Will our insurance help us?
Thanks
It will cover fire or explosion damage to the house, if the gas leak causes a fire or explosion.
It won’t cover damage to the actual pipe, or the plumbing bill to fix the pipe, unless the leak was caused by a covered cause of loss – like a car crashing into your pipe.
So it won’t help us replace the floor either.
No. If the gas leak leads to damage your homeowners will cover that.
Homeowners does not cover “Wear and tear” damage to your home. As an example, if you let your roof go for 20 years with no repairs, you cant ask them to replace your roof = maintenance you should have performed over time.
I think the peril the others may be overlooking is “accidental discharge from a plumbing device”. If the pipe is behind a wall or below the ground, they should at least cover the cost of getting to the pipe, and repairing any access damage. If the pipe can be easily accessed, then no, as the others are correct; there is no coverage for the actual repair unless required due to another covered peril (fire, vehicles, etc, etc.) Also, keep in mind that your rates and insurability depend a lot on your claim history. Consider your HO policy to be for large losses (at least $2500), sort of like major medical. If you use it for small losses, you will find your rates going up and may be cancelled (making replacement coverage far more expensive). Peace.
